AMADOR COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL committed to encouraging, supporting, and promoting the Arts. Their programs are numerous and include a Patron of the Arts Award, two "arts" scholarships yearly to two students , one each at the Argonaut and Amador High Schools,. PICK UP THE BATON offers group lessons in Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, Trombone, Trumpet, Percussion and Strings. Beginning Band is also offered, as is Intermediate and Advanced Ensemble. The emphasis is on learning to play an instrument and gaining experience in playing with others in the Beginning Band Class. Directors Steve Chambers and Jeff Chambers, are well schooled and have worked as professional musicians for years. One of their goals is to make music programs such as Pick up the Baton, an enriching part of the community that will support growth of the arts for years to come. Check out their website Click here

The Amador Community Band is comprised of very talented local musician volunteers from Amador and surrounding counties. There are no auditions and no compensation. Band reheaersals are held on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Amador High School Band Room in Sutter Creek. The band is looking for people who play or have played band instruments in the past. MUSIC LESSON SCHOLARSHIPS (est. 1979) — STJS provides funding for private music instruction for elementary, middle school and high school students. Naturally, the emphasis is on jazz. Scholarship money is raised at the monthly raffle held at the "Jazz Sunday" concert, and by the STJS Foundation. If you are a young musician interested in studying traditional jazz, you can download information and an application to apply for one of these music lesson awards. THE SACRAMENTO SYMPHONIC WINDS, CONDUCTOR LES LEHR. The Scramento Symphonic Winds is a newky formed concert band under the leadership of Dr. Les Lehr. The band rehearses on Tuesday nights at El Camino High School at 7:15 p.m. Membership is by invitation, recommendation and/or audition. SSW presently has openings in the following positions: Bassoon (2), Clarinet (2), Alto Sax (1), Tenor Sax (1), Trombone (1), Percussion (1) Openings are filled by audition.
